icad 1 thru 8

Yes, I climbed onto the icad train this year. I've started it before but never made it to the end. I'm just not good at things you gotta do every day. Well, I mean, I brush my teeth and change my undies, but with non-essential do-it-if-you-wanna-the-world-won't-quit-spinning-if-you-don't type stuff I pretty much always fall asleep somewhere along the way.

Also I just don't like doing art on index cards. They don't hold up well to wet work, they aren't large or sturdy enough to send as postcards, the lines bug me, etc, etc. While digging thru my drawers of stuff I don't use much, I found a box of tabbed manila cards, 4" x 6", nice and heavy, perfect for daily art. So I began, and made it thru day 3 before completely forgetting about it in the crush of working 45-50 hours a week and trying to keep the house somewhat under control, food on the table, the garden watered, the dog walked - all the things you gotta do as a semi-responsible tax paying adult.

So I caught up yesterday and here they are. I did the first one to the foreign language prompt cause it was fun to pretend I knew Italian, but the rest are all mostly collage cause that's what I enjoy doing. These will be going out as postcards as I feel the urge, long before icad ends.

  1. These are great! I love how you're dating them on the tabs. Last year when I did ICAD, I cut my own cards out of heavier stuff than index card stock, also a bit bigger than index cards. I don't think it matters what you work on, just that you do 61 of them. I did several a day most days so I didn't have to make one each day. I especially love the donut hole one and the last one. Really wonderful, all!

  2. Love these!
I have all the same icad issues you mentioned! I thought I'd do better this time, so I bought a stack of unlined 4x6 index cards to use (figuring I could at least send them out as postcards (esp if I glued them to cardstock or whatever), but have I made a single icad in the past 8 days? I'd say garden-watering has taken precedence, but it has rained at least twice this week.....

  3. Hey, Leslie, happy to see you playing again. I too cheat and often make a bunch that I can throw in when I'm too busy, or too uninspired. Besides, it's fun and quick--I don't think I've ever spent more hat 15 minutes on one. Your cards are great! I like seeing them in a bunch like this, and trying to imagine where your head was at as you made them.

  5. G-R-E-A-T! Donut Hole and Welcome are my faves.... I use 4x6 dollar store index cards...and yes, they don't hold up to major wet, but they hold collage well enough. I make many of mine into postcards as well and I just glue a second index card to the back to make it sturdier - seems to work well. I think the point of these various daily challenges is to encourage folks to just get busy and make something - obviously it needs to fit around your life too, and there are certainly days where I just can't be bothered, but then I hear the little voice in my head whispering, ICAD, ICAD. I keep a few at hand for when I'm watching TV....great doodle size and low expectations. All in all it should be fun - when it's not, we can stop, right? :)
