icad 16-21

Falling behind a bit but knocked out a few of these this evening. Still having fun with it.

Found this series of shots of this weird guy in a magazine and when I came across the phrase weeks later I knew they were meant for each other. And looking at this now, the pale lips were meant to have 'color envy' for the red lipstick, but it just looks like I screwed up and didn't choose red lips for this collage. Ah, well...
My mother never wore any makeup that I can remember except her red lipstick. I tried it when I was younger and felt I could pull it off when I was all dressed up, but it seemed very conspicuous otherwise. and now I never wear any.

Kind of a lame one. Wanted to use the elephant but then couldn't really find anything to go with him. <sigh>

icad 9 thru 14

All collage, all the time with this week's cards. Sad to say, I made 4 of the 6 yesterday. So much for art every day. Sometimes I'm just too whipped by the end of a 9.5 hr day and I just crash on the couch with a book. Then days like yesterday come along, where I spent at least 7 hours making art at the kitchen table, so I guess I don't really need icad to get me to art regularly - I've been in the habit for years now. Still, I'm enjoying using these cards, making these small scenes and finding silly text for them.

June 9 is dress pattern tissue, part of a playing card that already had a hole torn in it for some reason I don't remember, pic of a nerdy guy from an old ad showing thru, test stamps for an arrow stamp I carved a while back, and some book text.
June 10 is all bits pulled from my box of stuff I cut out in the evening in front of the tv.

June 11 is more misc parts pulled together (sort of lol) to make a whole. I'd cut the girl's eye out previously for something else and the cat just seemed to fit there. This is a really odd bunch of stuff and I'm glad to see my mind can do this type of thing. I used to be way too tightly wrapped to make weird collages but I'm getting better at it.
June 12 another oddball. Fish tail left over from postcard for friend, turtles also ended up unused on postcard so ended up here. Vase and sign from cut out box. No rhyme or reason to this one either. #strangeday #minimalist

June 13 didn't intend to make 13 of something for the 13th, but saw circles in my cut outs box and decided to do all circles. Counted them after and had 13. Huh. Couldn't find a big 3 in magazine so cut off one side of a B.
June 14 Lady from 1946 American Home mag, other stuff from who knows where. I kept coming across the "book-of" and "the month" as I was poking thru text box and it looks like she's holding a prototype of an iPad so the text fit.

icad 1 thru 8

Yes, I climbed onto the icad train this year. I've started it before but never made it to the end. I'm just not good at things you gotta do every day. Well, I mean, I brush my teeth and change my undies, but with non-essential do-it-if-you-wanna-the-world-won't-quit-spinning-if-you-don't type stuff I pretty much always fall asleep somewhere along the way.

Also I just don't like doing art on index cards. They don't hold up well to wet work, they aren't large or sturdy enough to send as postcards, the lines bug me, etc, etc. While digging thru my drawers of stuff I don't use much, I found a box of tabbed manila cards, 4" x 6", nice and heavy, perfect for daily art. So I began, and made it thru day 3 before completely forgetting about it in the crush of working 45-50 hours a week and trying to keep the house somewhat under control, food on the table, the garden watered, the dog walked - all the things you gotta do as a semi-responsible tax paying adult.

So I caught up yesterday and here they are. I did the first one to the foreign language prompt cause it was fun to pretend I knew Italian, but the rest are all mostly collage cause that's what I enjoy doing. These will be going out as postcards as I feel the urge, long before icad ends.

this one started life as just circles but once I began to color them,
they started looking like life savers to me. I journaled about life being a circle
and the concept of living your life over and over until you get it right.
What if you never get it right? How do you know which parts to work
on the next time around?

What I've learned from ICAD is that I can't do something artsy every day. All the encouraging blogs and projects that push the 'aren't you worth ten minutes a day?' idea sort of just end up making me feel bad. I don't even have an especially crazy life but my moods are usually my determining factor as to whether or not I can make art on a given day, and some days it just ain't happenin'.
So... coming completely clean - I usually do several icad cards when I sit down to work on them, then date them out ahead. Sometimes I end up a week and a half ahead, sometimes I'm one short, like today. I think I did another card at work the other day but forgot to bring it home for today's roundup. On the days I don't do icads, I try to journal or work on swap ATCs or whatever else I have going. I think I sort of have to get in the mindset of working on that size canvass, and once I do, I want to do more than one.
After icad is over, I think I'll use ATC backgrounds as my art-every-day thing. Then I'll always have a good stash of backgrounds available when I'm ready to make ATCs, which have turned out to be my preferred art format.
Can't wait to read what everyone else got out of icad.

icad 6/18 - 6/21 & 6/22

Still doing Daisy Yellow's icad challenge. I apparently took 6/21 off since there's no card for that day. (?)

I loaded and reloaded this photo after turning it every which way in Flickr and it insists on being sideways, so I'm waving the white flag and leaving it. It must be a sign from the universe or something.

I was extremely low on inspiration and just used my errand list from the day. Not even any markers. Oy...

2nd one was torn from a Starbucks brochure on how the world would be a better place if we all started the day with the caffeinated beverage of our choice. I find that difficult to argue with...

3rd one was another low day in the inspiration dept. Lines, words, a goofy face peeking over the wall, and some squiggles which seem to express my colossal lack of direction in life.

4th one is blue tornadoes, I guess. Looks like I had a grim week in the icad area, huh? Must be working on them too late into the evening. Maybe they should be a lunchtime activity.

icad 6/14 - 6/17

My index cards for the last 4 days. This is still fun. I expect they'll end up in journals or glued to mail art or something. Don't think I'll want to save them as a set for any reason. I don't have much comment about these. I do them on the couch in the evening, when I'm tired and not up for much else than a 3x5 whatever. So I draw or glue or... I guess that's it, actually - I draw or glue.
Sorry for the crummy image quality. I suppose I should turn on either a light or the flash when it's almost 8pm outside and I'm trying to shoot too far from a window.

icad

Index Card A Day = icad. Do something on an index card every day during the summer. Start by June 16 and go thru August. I've been watching this on Daisy Yellow's blog  since she started it. At first, I wasn't real interested, but eventually the pressure got to me and I've been doing them for a few days now. Since the taking a picture/scanning, loading, blogging thing takes time, I'll be posting them a week's worth at a time. I started on the 11th, so here's my first three.

I love pink and green together. My guest room is shabby chic pink and green and I love that room. I have an old quilt on the wall and another on the bed, an old white bookcase, an old sewing machine cabinet painted white for a bedside table. It's a great room. So my first card was pink and green papers. The green is a page from an old book that I painted green for another project and had leftover.

6/12 is a list of things I had to do that day. Housecleaning of any sort is very low on my list of things to do, hence dusting got bumped for shopping. It's colored with Copic markers.

6/13 is a spider wed mandala. I used to always put a spider and web on my crazy quilts, and still like to use that design. More Copics. I love those things...
