freebie gelli prints

More gelli prints. These are all on pages from a Strathmore Visual Journal, the watercolor version, size 5.5x8". I took the coil out of all the pages so that I could work on them easier, and when I'm done, I'll put it all back together. 

I think it's Roben-Marie who routinely does this and I like it. Only problem I can foresee is finding the blasted coil 3 years from now when I've finally journaled on all the pages. For now, I'm keeping it on the shelf with all my other journals in the hopes that that'll be the place I think to look for it lol.

The big squishy circles on the top piece is large bubble wrap over small bubble wrap. Second piece was my scrap piece, where I roll off the brayer and press off the underside of stencils. Messy but I like the colors and all the layers.

Third one I dragged a fine comb over it, then used a honeycomb  stencil that Rhonda brought me last Sunday when she came for the day.

The teardrops are a stencil from a previous visit over small bubble wrap. It's like Christmas when she comes!

Print them out and cut them up for collage. Use them as a background or element in digital collage. Sell items you made using them. I don't care what you do with them as long as you don't make money from selling them as themselves. 


Scanned at 300dpi, but I also have 600dpi versions available for those of you who want a HUGE one for something. Just ask.

outgoing postcards

One to Terrie, often a swap partner in the MMSA swaps, in exchange for one of her very cool dangling doodles cards, which hasn't arrived yet but will any moment.

As previously mentioned, I'm using up old photos so I grabbed one of me partway up a palm tree in Florida around 1955. Background is a gelli print, collaged with old journal paper, book pages, and dress pattern, then rollered with this silly little stamp I found somewhere that I hardly ever use cause it takes like 3 days to dry.

The next one is to my cousin Dea in Ohio. It's from a 1991 newspaper clipping that I've been hauling around for 22 YEARS! She was being given an award. Gelli background, collaged with gellied papers, doodled with gel pen.

Love the bouffont pageboy, Dea.

Third one is going to as yet unknown recipient (if you'd like it to show up in your mailbox, leave a comment saying so and I'll draw a name next Sunday).

Not sure who/what I was channeling here. Old photo of small boy sticking his tongue out, the perfect caption from my box of bits, misc papers, orange feather from my African red-bellied parrot Winston, a whole lot of crazy free-motion stitching.

gelli orange & oranges

Hooking up to Mandarin Orange Monday for the first time with a screaming orange gelli print and some actual Mandarin oranges, which may be a bit too literal an interpretation but oh well.

Those of you who have resisted hopping on the gelli print train should consider this thought - it is the quickest, most fun way I know to make an original piece of art, time after time. Like snowflakes, no two are ever the same, and they give your art a unique look with very little effort.

Yesterday when Rhonda visited, she brought her new Silhouette Cameo and we cut this up into postage stamp type pieces which I'll use in collage and whatever else needs a bit of orange.

 I'm liking orange more and more as I age. My mom loved all the autumn colors and kept trying to dress me in them but I resisted. I still don't wear most of them as they don't complement my hair and skin but I enjoy using them in my art.

The oranges were on the mark-down cart at the grocery this morning. A full bag for 99 cents instead of the usual $4.99. I bought two so will be eating oranges like mad all week.

Also on the cart was a bag of 5 usable avocados for $1.49 - normally the price for just one avo - so we now have a large bowl of guacamole in the fridge. Yum.

Didn't do a darn thing about Easter yesterday except eat a marshmallow egg so we're having lamb chops for dinner, along with rice, and roasted carrots/broccoli/cauliflower. Looking forward to it.
