MMSA found poetry

I enjoy doing found poetry when I'm in the mood. For this one, you could either cut out words, as I did, or use a page from a book and black out all but the words you want to show as your poetry. I find that pretty difficult, so I did it the easy way and made nonsense haiku.

All the words and phrases are from a large print book I bought solely for the larger type, but then ended up reading and loving, and then reading a few more by the same author. It was Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson, a British writer. She definitely has a unique quirky style and some reviewers didn't care for it at all but I found her delightful. I also read Case Histories and Behind the Scenes At The Museum. Need to find a couple more.

The first one is a paste paper background, the second is watercolor, and the third gelli print. Didn't especially mean to use such varied backgrounds but they're what appealed to me when I flipped thru my pile of ready-to-go-background postcards.

cherry blossom pink

A digital collage made for the Art Journal Caravan 2013. This month's stop on our around the world tour is Japan. I'm not a huge fan of Japanese art, culture, food, etc. Don't dislike it, it just isn't a country on my bucket list.

However, it has a lot of neat things going for it such as cranes, mountains, cherry blossoms, and haiku.

For this collage, I used 3 background papers from the March kit layered and blended in a variety of ways, then added the various elements.

I wrote the haiku which reads:

cherry blossom pink
sparrows soar in aqua sky
nature sighs softly

haiku

Back on this post, I mentioned that I was going to add to this spread a haiku I'd written. I finally actually did that and here it is.
Haiku is a very short form of poetry, typically written thusly:

5 syllables
7 syllables
5 syllables

My mother used to write a lot of it when she was young. I played around with them for a while in my twenties but got sidetracked by limericks, which suited my smart-ass personality better.

I just went off to see if I could find any of them, but no luck. Probably just as well...
